Global Education is not a subject or separate discipline but rather an approach to teaching and learning that incorporates a global lens through with we view instruction. Many of the challenges of the 21st century are global in nature. A student that graduates from our schools today needs preparation to thrive in the more interconnected world in which they will live and work.

We want students to Investigate the World. Students need to build an understanding of the connectivity between their own community and people from distant lands. Students will live and work with others from different countries and cultures, so it is imperative that they Recognize Perspectives. Students should learn how their own viewpoints are shaped as well as those from other places. The challenges of the 21st century are often global in nature. Students can learn by Taking Action on a global issue, ideally in collaboration with peers from another place with a shared concern. A skill that will serve them in higher education and in their career will be to Communication Ideas. This requires thoughtful reflection and synthesis of the understandings that have been developed/

Global Education can follow a cyclical learning process. Students become aware of a global issue and build their understanding of the problem. After critical reflection on the issue, they can take informed action that results in some sort of sustainable change.
