MAEOE is the largest state environmental education organization in the U.S.. This group has an active membership and hosts a large conference each year, that often attracts educators from other parts of the world.
North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE)
This is the organization for environmental educators from the US, Canada, and Mexico. The annual conference attract participants from across the globe!
Howard Hughes Medical Institute's BioInteractive
This is a fantastic resource for teachers interested in science that applies to global health issues. A variety of resources are available for free on this site. Other teaching materials may be ordered and will be sent for free!
EPA Educator Resources
The U.S, Environmental Protection Agency has an excellent collection of teacher resources on environmental issues that span from the local to the global in nature.
Climate Stewards
This NOAA sponsored organization provides formal and informal educators with an opportunity to engage in online professional development on global climate change.
Osprey Tracking
The osprey is a migratory bird of prey that typically nests in northern latitudes and spends the winter months in the tropics. Some ospreys in Maryland were outfitted with transmitters that reveal their movements. This could be a great way to set up a global partnership between students in the north and south-focused on the shared responsibility for stewardship of our ospreys!
Nat Geo Education
The National Geographic Society has developed hundreds of resources for teachers to incorporate geography education into the classroom. Some activities involve students in the investigation of their local environment, other have students exploring the world through video, photographs, and first person accounts.
PolarTREC
PolarTREC involves classroom teachers in partnership with researchers conducting investigations in the polar regions of the world. Numerous resources are available for teachers, including live broadcasts from the most remote locations on Earth. Our own Chesapeake Biological Laboratory has several researchers that have connected to our students through this program during their at-sea research in the arctic.
West Nile Virus Interactive
Our work with mosquitoes is definitely supported by this series of lesson plans and other activities. The project tracks the spread of this disease around the globe and includes interviews with local researchers working to solve the problems.
