About
Greetings from the Chesapeake Bay! I am Tom Harten, a teacher with the CHESPAX environmental education program of the Calvert County Public Schools. Our program uses the natural environments around the Chesapeake Bay and Patuxent River as a natural laboratory for learning about the world. Students participate in classroom and field based activities to connect to the environment that sustains them.
I have had an opportunity to participate in some field experiences that help me to develop professionally as an environmental education teacher, including a program in the Bering Sea of Alaska, Japan, and most recently, in India. These experiences help to provide new perspectives on environmental education strategies and challenge me to think out of the box as we develop new programs for our students.
These pages chronicle my experiences as a participant with the Teachers for Global Classrooms program. I will continue to use it as a portal in my goal of expanding global education opportunities for Calvert County students.
